Ian joined Spearing Waite in May 2016 as the firm’s first Partner specialising solely in commercial work.

A native of the city of Kingston upon Hull, he graduated in law from Downing College, Cambridge.  Ian joined us from a firm in Nottingham, prior to which he had spent 20 years in the in-house sector, initially with British Coal before longer spells with Nestle and Boots and finally the former Focus Wickes retail group.

An accomplished practitioner, valued by clients for his personable manner and businesslike, common-sense approach, as well as his comprehensive technical legal knowledge, Ian’s experience covers all kinds of commercial contracts as well as many areas of trading and business law, including:

He has a particular expertise in cross-border transactions.
