Spearing Waite has organised a charity Cycle Sportive event to raise thousands of pounds for LOROS, one of Leicestershire’s most deserving charities.
Every year, LOROS Hospice cares for more than 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The charity provides free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill adult patients, their family and carers.
With close to 100 cyclists signed up, Spearing Waite managing partner Tom Bower is confident the ride will be a huge success, not to mention a highly enjoyable ride around some of Leicestershire and Rutland’s most beautiful countryside.
Tom said: “We are thrilled to have attracted so many cyclists, keen to join together to help raise much needed funding for LOROS.
“I’m not sure we are all ‘racing fit’, but you don’t have to be. It is all about a willingness to take part to help raise money for charity.”
The cycle ride takes place on Thursday June 7. There are two rides on the day, one covering 25 miles and for the more ambitious cyclists, a 75-mile route is also being planned.
Ahead of the ‘grand depart’ at 10.30am, Spearing Waite is honoured to welcome Lady Gretton in what will be one of her last appearances as Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire after more than 15 years in the role. She stands down on June 14.
To get the Cycle Sportive off to a flying start Lady Gretton with share a tandem with our very own Tom Bower, and once they have cleared the starting line, the event proper will begin.
Cyclists set off in groups of 10, between 10.30am and 1pm, the idea being that they finish more or less at the same time to allow for networking afterwards.
Peter Leverett, Managing Director of SPACE said:
“It is an honour for us to be getting behind such an amazing event. It is no small task to sign up so many cyclists, all keen to do what they can to raise money for LOROS. We have been delighted to help out financially and to help ensure the event is a huge success.”
There is still just about time to enter the Cycle Sportive – call Michelle Newman on 0116 262 4225 – but you will need to hurry!
