Commercial Law Specialist Ian Thomson joins Spearing Waite as a Partner after moving from Geldards. Prior to Geldards Ian worked in-house for 20 years at British Coal as well as for Nestle, Boots and Focus Wickes.
Ian brings with him over 30 years’ experience in all aspects of commercial contract work, including contracts for buying and selling of goods and services, agency, distribution and franchising, sponsorship, outsourcing, and IT licensing, support and development agreements to name but a few. In addition to his contracting expertise, Ian is also highly experienced in trading law and regulation, including advertising and sales promotion law and codes of practice, financial services compliance – particularly consumer credit – and competition law
After studying law at Downing College, Cambridge, Ian sat his Law Society Final exam at the College of Law, Chester.
On joining Spearing Waite, Ian said “It was the quality of the opportunity that attracted me to move to Spearing Waite. Whilst the firm is a full service commercial law firm, there is an opportunity to strengthen the commercial specialism offering to current and potential clients and contacts and there is great potential to build the business and an even more substantial practice”.
Head of Corporate, Martin Smith said “we are delighted to be able to announce Ian’s arrival and the quality and experience he brings in this area. This will undoubtedly benefit not only our clients but the local market as well, as we are able to offer true specialism on the ground. Combined with a very busy Intellectual Property & Media practice, Ian’s arrival gives us a strong offering to businesses in these key areas”.
Ian is married and lives in Nottingham. He has been an avid Hull City fan since the age of six and goes to as many games as he can. When not watching Hull he also enjoys watching rugby league and cricket as well as, among other interests, reading, walking & cooking.
